Obituary

Belva (Whisman) Pozek, age 96, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020, at Brighton Ridge in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Mrs. Pozek, daughter of Millard and Maudie (James) Whisman, was born on October 2, 1923, in Shell Knob. On August 15, 1961, Belva was united in marriage to Rudy Pozek and they were married for forty-eight years before his passing on October 25, 2009, in Independence, Missouri.

Belva attended Shell Knob Elementary School and graduated from Cassville High School in 1942. Upon graduation she moved to Kansas City to be near her older sister Wanda. Belva started working for Montgomery Ward and later went to work for Sears where she retired in 1986 after forty years. In 2010, she moved from Independence, Missouri, to Shell Knob to be closer to her brother where she lived at the Playce in Shell Knob until it closed in February 2012. Belva then moved to Peachtree in Holiday Island, Arkansas, there she met two special ladies, Connie and April, who loved her dearly and were like family.   When her health failed and more care was needed Belva moved to Brighton Ridge in September 2019.

Belva was always dressed to the hills with nothing ever out of place. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with her family, and collected all sorts of antiques.

Survivors include her sister in-law, Sharon Whisman, of Shell Knob; three nieces, Dixie Sams, Brenda Swofford, and Delinda Taylor; nine nephews, Ronald, Richard and Dennis Whisman, Joe and Jim Bradshaw, Mike and Mark Swofford, and Justin and Jamie Whisman.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, H.F. Whisman, Kenneth Whisman, Carl Whisman, M.F. "Junior" Whisman, and Charles "Chock" Whisman; and three sisters, Wanda Bradshaw, Vera Simmons, and Willa Dean Swofford.
