Obituary

2 Timothy 4:7

I fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Brenda Lee Poe of Eagle Rock, MO, passed away the morning of March 13, 2025, at her residence due to complications from her battle with cancer. She was born March 13, 1957, at St. Luke's in Kansas City, MO, to the late Robert (Bob) and Jeanne Way of Shawnee, KS.

Brenda attended Shawnee Mission Northwest in Shawnee, KS and married Gary Bruce Poe on July 5, 1974. She was a devoted mother to Gina (husband John Stringer) and Rachel (husband Caleb Ross) and later a grandmother to Rachel's children, Anthony Tolbert, Logan Tolbert (wife Hallie), Ethan Sizemore and two great-granddaughters Elane Tolbert and Logan Rose Tolbert.

Brenda is also survived by her siblings and their families, Barbara (husband Jeff Colleen) of Kansas City, KS and Beth (husband David VanDenabeele) of Waxhaw, NC and mother-in-law Betty Summerlin of Eagle Rock, MO. She also leaves behind many family members and friends.

Brenda was a devoted partner to Gary in life and in work. In 1981 Poe Concrete was formed and she worked beside Gary daily. She had the uncanny ability to read Gary's mind on the job and anticipate his next move. When others speak of Brenda, they always talk about her unsurpassable work ethic and how she worked harder than anyone they'd ever seen.

Brenda was known for her love and sacrifice for her family, passion for her horses and dogs and her unique sense of humor. She gave most everyone she came into contact with their own nickname. Brenda was an artist in her own right and enjoyed drawing.  Over the years, Brenda and Gary welcomed a number of people into their home and gave generously to others. She especially enjoyed the cross country motorcycle adventures she and Gary took, trips to the beach and the learning she gleaned while becoming a certified dog trainer. Brenda and Gary had the opportunity to travel to Malawi, Africa for missions' work where they helped the local tribes by pouring concrete for new dormitories for local pastors. The trip changed her perspective on life as the people there, and their circumstances, captured her heart. While she did not have the chance to physically return, she prayed for the people daily.

Brenda's faith was exhibited even in her final months as she praised the Lord and prayed for others in the midst of her own pain.

Brenda attended Blessing Heights Worship Center in Cassville, MO, where she loved to hear the Word preached and where her celebration of life will be held March 22 at 2:00.

Friends and family are welcome to attend to share stories celebrating her life and what she meant to them. Contributions in her memory may be made to Gospel in Action at PO Box 848 Chariton, IA 50049

May we remember her for the prayer warrior she was and remember her life with gratitude, live in the present with faith and look forward to the future with her once again.
