Chock attended Shell Knob Elementary School and graduated from Cassville High School in 1956. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961where he served in South Korea. After returning home from the service, Chock worked in the grocery store owned by his mom and dad in old Shell Knob while also helping on the farm.

In August of 1969, he was united in marriage to Sharon Sue Warren and in August of 2019 they celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary.
