Born in Salem Nebraska on June 29, 1941; He was assigned his permanent duty station on his beloved Marine Corp birthday November 10, 2022. He wouldn't have had it any other way. Jim had three main loves in life: family and friends, the United States Marine Corp and the Freemasons/Shriners. The family moved to the Cassville, MO area when Jim was a young boy. Jim joined the USMC at the age of 16 and became a lifelong advocate for veterans. Jim married the love of his life, Barbara Sue Thomas in 1961 and had 46 years of love. In 1977 Jim and Sue settled in Shell Knob, MO and opened A1 Auto Shop, which he ran until his retirement. Jim was a member of the Central Crossing #674 AF&AM, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple in Springfield Mo, and a charter member of the Shell Knob Shrine Club. He proudly sponsored 20 children throughout his membership. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Sue, two sons Bobby and David, his parents Ralph and Sarah Rhoads, brothers William (Bill) and Ralph (Jack), and sisters Marge Leer and Esther Prewitt.
He is survived by his daughter Janette and her husband Rick Stansbury of Cassville, Mo; three grandchildren, Staff Sargent Chris Henry and his wife Lacreshia (Latrease), Jeff Henry, and his favorite granddaughter Melissa and her husband Jeremy Mansfield all of Cassville, MO. Ten great grandchildren Donovan, Owen, Levi, Devon, Payton, Gracie, Chloe, Colton, Addie, and Josie. Two sisters Peggy Cass of Topeka, KS and Sue Downing of Bois D'Arc, MO. Numerous nieces and nephews. His best friend since seventh grade Dale Kobel of Lee's Summit, MO. And Chloe his dog.
The family would like to extend their gratefulness to the Mount Vernon VA home for the excellent care and love given for the last seven years and to the Three Rivers Hospice for the caring for the last few months.
Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022, at White Funeral Home of Cassville. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022, with Wayne Leer officiating, at White Funeral Home of Cassville.
Memorial contributions in honor of Jim Rhoads may be made to the Shriners Hospital, or entrusted to White Funeral Home & Crematory, P.O. Box 890, Cassville, MO 65625.
