Obituary

John David Augustine passed away Friday, October 21, 2022, at his lake home surrounded by family. John was born on July 18, 1958, to William (Bill) Augustine and Bernice Augustine of Cherryvale, Kansas.  John grew-up in Cherryvale and graduated from Cherryvale High School with the Class of 1976.

John lived his early adult years in Cherryvale and worked at Vallis-Wingroff as a master printer.   Later, John resided in Centennial Colorado where he owned and operated his own business "Nickel Creek Gun Dogs." John's business focused on breeding, training, and boarding top tier upland bird dogs. He also worked as a senior hunt guide for Colorado Front Range Gun clubs Kiowa Creek Sporting Club and Quint Valley Sporting Club.

Upon retirement, John moved to Table Rock Lake in Missouri to enjoy lake life, fishing, hiking, and boating. John is survived by his loving wife, Frances Augustine, his three children and their families: Shawn and Alisha Augustine, of Bristow, Oklahoma; Lindsey and Eric Hallgren, of Honolulu, Hawaii and John Clayton and Holly Augustine, of Parker, Colorado, along with his beautiful granddaughters, Cameryn and Samantha Hallgren, of Honolulu, Hawaii; and his two sisters, Anita Augustine, Susan Howard and brother, Wayne Augustine.

John was an entrepreneur and turned a love of dogs and hunting into a business and profession. He was at home in the hunting fields with "Indy" and "Sugar" his bird dogs guiding hundreds of hunting enthusiasts and helping cultivate talent in thousands of dogs. John's confident, calm, and welcoming demeanor regarding dog training coined him the "the dog whisperer." John was kind, fun, and friendly. John never met a stranger, and many followed him through the life of his career to ensure they had the best dogs and a great hunt.

Above all John loved his family and his love was immeasurable. Being a husband, father and grandfather was such a gift to John. John's sweet granddaughters were the apple of his eye. Known as "Gumpa", taking the girls fishing, swimming, boating, or just hearing from them about their day brought him great joy. John led a life well lived.  He will be missed.

…in lieu of flowers or donations, we would ask that you all take a moment to kiss your spouse, hug your children, reach out to a friend, or get out into the outdoors to enjoy a hike or hunt. Time waits for no one, and no amount of time is enough to spend with those you love.

No services are scheduled at this time.
