Reverend Johnie James Mitchell, age 95, of Washburn, Missouri, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 2, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. Johnie, son of William James and Sara (Frances) Mitchell, was born on April 25, 1925, in Waldron, Arkansas. As a young man, Johnie enlisted in the United States Army where he bravely defended our great nation in World War II. Following his time of duty, he married his first wife Della McCallister and together they had seven children; she preceded him in death in December 1967. Johnie had various jobs over the years including picking cotton, working in the coal mines, an 8 th level master mechanic, and being a familiar face as you walked in at Wal-Mart as a people greeter. He often said the job that he was most proud of was being a father and grandpa, both he did very well.
On September 23, 1969, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Miles Wright. During their marriage they had a combined household of nine kids. In March of 1981, Johnie and Eleanor adopted two of their grandchildren and raised them as their own. In July 1981, after many years of working as a mechanic, Johnie yielded to the calling God placed on his life and was ordained into the ministry; during this time Johnie made many lasting friendships and had touched so many lives by spreading the gospel and speaking of Gods wondrous works. Johnie had many accomplishments and passions throughout his life of 95 years, the greatest of which were his love for God and his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Eleanor Mitchell, of Cassville; five sons, John Mitchell and his wife Beverly, Washburn, Larry Wright and his wife Jean, of Washburn, Roger Wright and his wife Michelle of Foyil, Oklahoma; Lloyd Mitchell and his wife Okcha, of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Dean Mitchell and his wife Janet, of Jacksonville, Florida; three daughters, Della Watts and her husband Joe, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Caroline Sadra-Momtaz, of Purdy, and Reverend Jacquline Litchfield and her partner Nick Misenheimer, of Little Rock, Arkansas; twenty-three grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Mitchell and his wife Loretta, of Grove, Oklahoma, and Leroy Mitchell and his wife Donna, of Ridgecrest, California; one sister, Cora McGinnis and her husband Buddy, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family who all loved him dearly and will forever hold him in their hearts.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Della, Johnie was preceded in death by 3 sons: Marvin, Melvin, and Jerry Mitchell; one grandson; 5 brothers: George, Raymond, Joe, Alonzo, and Donald Ray Mitchell, and 3 sisters: Bonnie Hurst, Goldie Hobbs, and Anna Ellington.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6th at White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, with Evangelist John Hile officiating; cremation arrangements to follow.
A private family burial will be held at Roller Cemetery in Powell, Missouri, at a later date.
