Obituary

Karla Sue Lakey, age 64, of Washburn, Missouri, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 22, 2022.  The daughter of Carl Shipley and Christine Naomie (Armstrong) Schell, Karla was born on November 1, 1957, in Springfield, Missouri. She was a 1975 Washburn High School graduate.  On December 7, 1973, Karla was united in marriage to Frederick Lakey and unto this union four children were born; he preceded her in death on March 4, 2009.

Karla had a huge heart and was a loving mother who always put her children first as well as many others.  She liked to be on the go and lived her life to the fullest.  Karla and her significant other, Joe, were inseparable and spent countless hours together making memories that would last a lifetime. Some of her favorite pastimes included going to the casino, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with her family and friends.  Karla will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Survivors include her significant other, Joe Rivera, of Washburn; two daughters, Stacey Lakey, of Washburn, and Amanda Martinez and her husband Ramon, of West Fork, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Brittany Johnson, Nick Pirri, Eric Pirri, Marcus Lakey, Allison Serrano, Matthew Serrano, Cruz Marquez, Lucas Paulsen, Liliana Mosqueda, and Carly Martinez; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Schell, Jr., of Cassville; two sisters, Coeta Stephens and Frankie Evans, both of Washburn; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Karla was preceded in death by two daughters, Angel Lakey and Heather Lakey; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Sandy Phillips; and one brother-in-law, Larry Stephens.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, with Pastor Glenn Erwin officiating; cremation arrangements to follow.  A private family burial will be held at Washburn Prairie at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Service and cremation arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
