Obituary

Marjorie Ann Ryder, age 85, passed away on Saturday. January 6, 2018, at her residence in Cassville, Missouri.

Mrs. Ryder, the daughter of Oliver and Mabel (Lane) Young was born on August 31, 1932 in her parents' home northwest of Purdy. Marjorie started to school at the Talbert one-room rural school before the school's students were transferred to the Purdy School Diistrict. She then graduated from Purdy High School in 1950.

She was united in marriage to Robert Ryder on December 24, 1950. They settled into an apartment above the Elkins Butane company in Wheaton, later moved to a small house near Pioneer, and finally purchased a farm just south of Purdy in 1954.

Marjorie began her working career working as a receptionist for Dr. Russell Powell, an optometrist, in Monett. Her duties expanded as Dr. Danny Nestleroad and Dr. J. D. Roberts were added to the practice. Following her retirement in 1994, she worked part-time in the Barry County Assessor's office for one tax season. In earlier years Marjorie was very active in area Home Economics Extension Clubs. She was an avid, accomplished seamstress and quilter. She and her husband, Robert, were charter members of the Barry County Museum Volunteer Program. Marjorie was a member of the Mill Street Church of Christ in Cassville.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Robert Ryder of Cassville; one daughter Becky Ryder of Cassville; one son, Ronal Ryder of Fallon, Nevada; three grandchildren, Ivette Cervantes, of Oceanside, California, Jose Aguilar, of Houston, Texas, and Cristian Luna, of Desert Springs, California and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Debby Brill, Bill Hutchens, Matt Akin, and Sandy Keith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elane Hutchens and Jessilyn Akin.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, with Minister Ken West officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield.
