Opal
Weathers
Sep 4, 1929 — Nov 16, 2019
God always leads us to where we need to be, not where we want to be. On November 16, 2019, at the age of 90, our Mother was lead by God to where she needed and wanted to be, with our Dad and other loved ones.
Opal Frances (Smith) Weathers was born September 4, 1929 near Kato, MO., later moving with her family to Cassville, MO. where she attended school and graduated with the Class of 1948. While a senior in high school, she was voted "best smile" and continued smiling throughout her life.
On July 18, 1949 she married James Lamoin Weathers of Washburn, MO. She was a devoted wife and loving stay at home mom to their three children. The family resided in Exeter, MO. where she was active in all school activities including home room mother and serving as President of the Exeter P.T.A.
Our Mother was of strong faith and conviction and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Cassville, MO. She was proud to be a part of an organization that honored our Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. For over 10 years she was a volunteer at the Second Act in Cassville, MO. She enjoyed her hobby of Geneology and tirelessly searched for ancestry information for both sides of the family. She loved to read and would read several books each week.
Opal was known around Cassville as the "hat lady", because she always wore cute and fashionable hats. She never met a stranger and even if she did, they still received the same friendly smile, hug, and hand holding that friends and family knew so well. She loved people and it showed.
Mother's last residence was Lacoba Assisted Living in Monett, MO. She remained active and social and especially enjoyed playing bingo and visiting new and old friends. She was crowned Ms. Lacoba in May of this year and competed in the Golden Olympics held in October. She will be remembered for her loving smile and warm hugs and will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Preceded in death by Lamoin, her husband of 65 years, her mother Chlora 'BoBo' Bowen, two sisters Ruby and Lena Faye and one brother Charles. She is survived by her three children, Connie Cowherd and her husband David, Jim Weathers and Tim Weathers, five grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Nick, Matt and Joey. Four great grandchildren, TJ, Jewel, Clay and Nora. One brother, Donald and one sister, Corena, and loving friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 21, 2019, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, with Pastor Dave Eaton officiating. Burial to follow at King Cemetery in Seligman. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lacoba Homes or the Cassville Branch Library and entrusted to the White Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box 890, Cassville, MO 65625.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
