Obituary

On Monday, October 19th, 2020, Robert Michael "Mike" Munn, 66, passed away at his home in Shell Knob, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Born to Robert and Bernardine (Holton) Munn on March 11th, 1954, Mike grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduating high school, Mike proudly served in the United States Navy before embarking on a 30-year career as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Ann (Poterbin) "Becky" Munn, of Shell Knob; his son, Joseph Michael Munn and his wife Kayla, of Bettendorf, Iowa; his two grandchildren, Anne Marie and Zella. Three sisters, Kathy Bovard, of Shell Knob; Julie Tiemann, of Kansas City, Kansas; and Susan Munn, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. His step-mother, Shirley Munn, of Shell Knob; one step-brother, Steve Carrico, of Basehor, Kansas; and his many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mike was happiest outdoors. He shared his love of the outdoors with the children in his family, teaching them to fish and appreciate nature. Mike always loved being around kids, whether it was crawling around on the floor and wrestling, playing monster, or teaching them how to bait a hook. "Grandpa Mike" or "Unta Mike" made a lasting impact on his grandkids, great nieces, and great nephew.

After moving to Table Rock Lake in 2018, Mike spent most of his time on the water. The entire community will miss Mike and remember him as a man with an infectious laugh and an open door who never met a stranger. His wonderful sense of humor was wry and ornery, and he had a flair for practical jokes and nicknames that live on in his family.

Mike is already deeply missed by family, friends, and loved ones near and far.

Mike is preceded in death by his sister, Bernardine Munn, and both of his parents.

Memorial services for Mike will be held at Wyandotte County Lake Beach Shelter on November 7, 2020 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network www.pancan.org/ .
